The red carpet at the 2012 British Academy Film Awards continued the recent trend of traditional tuxedo styling. (The awards are officially called the Orange British Academy Film Awards because they are sponsored by a French telecom company called Orange which is both confusing and ironic.)
Here’s a look at the some of the best examples . . . and a few of the worst.

Colin Firth in a Giorgio Armani tuxedo made from ethical wool (whatever that is). His wife Livia Giuggioli is wearing a tuxedo by Sir Paul Smith.

Velvet was a big hit this year. Actor Eddie Redmayne went all out with a velvet tuxedo by Burberry . . .

Daniel Radcliffe’s outfit by Antonio Azzuolo is a bit too busy for my tastes with its two-button jacket, pocket flaps and extraneous ticket pocket. The silk trimmed lapels are a interesting touch though.

Cuba Gooding Jr. could have pulled off this dapper Hackett ensemble if he hadn’t swaddled himself in the white scarf.

A revealing comparison courtesy of a couple of Australians. The always impeccable Hugh Jackman keeps it bold and classic while the always disheveled Crowe keeps it mundane and messy. (Also a great example of midnight blue versus black.)

For all the effort presenter Jeremy Irvine (right) put into his outfit he might as well just have worn a T-shirt that said “F*ck You”.

My award for worst outfit of the evening probably has to go to Jamie Campbell (and not just because he stars in the nauseating “Twilight” movies).)

I love the photo comparing midnight blue to black. “Blacker than black” indeed.
I would love to get my hands on such a suit, but unfortunately as a college student my budget dictates otherwise. =(

Having spent so much time on the set of Mad Men, how could Jon Hamm bear to have so much excess fabric at his heels? I am incredulous.
